Wiltshire Restoration House

In terms of a revival in make do and mend, I think I must have encountered the mother of all projects this weekend. A  friend of mine called to say that she had bought a property that needed renovation, and would I like to see it. Well, it turned out to be a 13th century fortified house complete with moat, but everything, and I mean everything, needs doing.

The house is a complete time warp – ancient plumbing and pipes, fascinating machinery in the grounds, the remains of a Victorian greenhouse, orangery, dovecotes, hidden bits of statuary, venerable trees and even a crayfish pond (harking back to when large houses were self sufficient and most also had a carp pond).

I will admit to a pang of jealousy when I saw the fantastic challenge this will present – what a project! But I contented myself with taking lots of photos and I look forward greatly to seeing the phoenix rise from the ashes.
