I love New Years! The whole concept of beginning again, setting targets and dreams. I find it very uplifting and have some of my most creative thoughts at the start of a new year.
So what is in store for Alison at Home for 2019? Well in terms of trends, I always start by looking at the geo political landscape, because what happens to us as a nation always influences our interior choices.
What do I mean by that? Well I think that we are in a period of some uncertainty and perceived vulnerability, and that the result will be that we don’t move home as much, invest more in improving where we do live, and make choices that revolve around comfort and reassurance.
So I see an emphasis in interiors on the bedroom and sitting room – beds, sofas and chairs – and on comfortable chairs and tactile fabrics. Anything that nurtures.
On a personal level, I have seen this in the success of my most recent design for Made.com, the Primrose chair, which is all about soft, embracing curves and contours, upholstered in an oh so tactile velvet. This is already being followed up by a chaise version and a small sofa.

My long running collaboration with QVC continues to grow and is a particular pleasure – our 2019 collections are our best yet, and again, there is a great emphasis on comfort and luxury in the bedroom and sitting room. Look out for sumptuous bedcovers, super soft throws and lots of interesting tactile fabrics in gentle and subtle colors.
Overall I see 2019 as a year of being kind to ourselves in the way we make our home welcoming, soft, comfortable and warm.
I look forward to sharing it with you.
